The GSF Self-Certification Program enables organizations to self-certify conformance with ISO/IEC 21031:2024 (Software Carbon Intensity). Organizations submit their SCI calculations via email, attesting to standard compliance and disclosing their methodology, boundary, energy, carbon intensity, and embodied emissions data.

There is a three-gate verification process that only checks that enough information was provided, not the accuracy of that information nor the specification compliance. Approved submissions receive a 1-year certificate via GSF's badging platform and are publicly disclosed on GitHub for community review. .
